What we'll do This training is designed to help prepare HEMI Mentors for a successful match with a mentee, but they are useful for anyone who works with young people. So even if you are not sure if you want to mentor with HEMI, feel free to participate this engaging series.
Who can do it Anyone interested in learning about how to support youth.

The New Mentor Onboarding Series will begin with an overview of the HEMI program and equip mentors with ideas, activities, and goals for engaging with their mentees. We will then dive into Trauma Informed Care where folks will learn how to better understand and work with youth who have experienced trauma. We will break for lunch provided by Venice on Vine and then begin an engaging discussion on Cultural Competency. This training helps us understand identity, perception, and basis and the ways in which they can help or hinder relationship development. Finally, we will explain the Search Institute’s Developmental Asset Program and how to be intentional when engaging with you to build resiliency, self-confidence, and connectivity in the youth we serve.

The January 12th New Mentor Onboarding Series will be hosted at the HEMI Office in Clifton, and free parking is available in the lot across the street.
